Where to Check First
For a recent Wise County arrest, start with the regional jail because Wise County local custody normally routes through the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority rather than a separate county jail.
- SWVRJA Duffield Facility: 1037 Boone Trail Road, Duffield, VA 24244; phone and jail information line 276-690-9550. Use this facility for current local jail custody, recent booking visibility, bond questions tied to jail release, visitation, mail, phones, money, and jail records held by SWVRJA.
- Wise County Sheriff's Office: official site wiseso.net. Use the sheriff or arresting police agency for arrest reports, incident reports, warrant service questions, and law-enforcement records not held by the jail.
- SWVRJA FOIA records: use the Authority's Freedom of Information Act page for jail records that are not published on the roster. Virginia FOIA, including Va. Code Title 2.2, Chapter 37 and section 2.2-3706, controls public-record access and law-enforcement exemptions.
- Hours: the research reviewed did not locate a posted public lobby or records-unit schedule for Duffield or a Wise County jail records counter. Call before traveling, especially for mountain-road travel from Wise, Norton, Big Stone Gap, Coeburn, Pound, Appalachia, or St. Paul.
